Come June 11 and 12, 2011, the famous Osmeña Peak along the Dalaguete-Badian boundary, reputedly the highest peak in the island-province of Cebu, will take part in a history-making and world-record attempt of assembling the LARGEST ASCENT ON A MOUNTAIN (MULTIPLE LOCATIONS) which will involve 108 peaks in 46 provinces and 67 cities and municipalities all around the country – a mind-staggering event organized by the Alliance of Filipino Mountaineers, Inc., and is sanctioned by the Guinness World Record Committee under GWR Claim ID No. 339189.
Dubbed as Freedom Climb 2011, Osmeña Peak is one of only four mountains in the province of Cebu to be scaled in time of the nation’s celebration of Independence Day on June 12. Out-of-towners who will choose to spend their night at the Mantalongon area on June 11 will be accommodated at three base camps strategically located about an hour’s walk away from the Osmeña Peak. The trail to the summit will pass through lush vegetations along the Mantalongon Highlands, which will give an idea to the trekkers why Dalaguete is considered the Vegetable Basket of the Province. At the summit, one will have an excellent view of Bohol Island at the east, and the Zaragoza Island of Badian at the west, among others.
A registration fee of P400.00 (to cover the cost of an official Freedom Climb T-shirt, Certificate of Participation, baller and Guiness ID, bag tag, flaglets, and group tarpaulins) will be collected from each and every participant. In line with the local government’s aim to promote Osmeña Peak as one of the premier climbing destinations in the province, the Municipal Government of Dalaguete will shoulder up to 50% of the registration fee on Dalaguete climbing groups on a first come first serve basis. Please feel free to inquire at [email protected] on how to avail of said discounts.
Everyone is encouraged to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime experience of trailing along the famous Summer Capital of Cebu and being at the top of the highest peak of the province, en route to taking part of the Guinness Book of World Record’s Largest Assembly to Ascend on a Mountain (Multiple Locations).
